Seven young people accused of murdering Dale Creighton in Tallaght on New Year’s Day will stand trial in October 2016.
The 20-year-old died in hospital a day after suffering serious head injuries on a pedestrian footbridge.
Dale Creighton was allegedly attacked on a footbridge on St. Dominic's Road in Tallaght just four hours after ringing in the new year.
The 20-year-old suffered serious head injuries and lost his fight for life in hospital the following day.
Seven people, including a brother and sister, all aged in their 20s and all originally from the Tallaght area, have been charged with his murder.
An eighth person, James O’Brien (21), who now lives in Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow is accused of assault causing harm to Mr. Creighton.
This morning, the Central Criminal Court reserved October 3rd 2016 for the beginning of their trial.
Mr. O’Brien’s case would ordinarily be heard in a lower court but it will run alongside the others on that date to save time and costs.
The case has previously been described as a “complex” one and is expected to take up to eight weeks.
