The Tanaiste is accusing some landlords of being "excessively greedy", and has confirmed the government is working to put a stop high jumps in rent.

Joan Burton says the government is looking at 'rent certainty' proposals - although the Department of Finance is showing some resistance to such moves.

It's expected a package of measures aimed at slowing down the rate of rent increases will be announced within the next few weeks.

Minister Burton said "some landlords are excessively greedy, lets not put a tooth in it, and they're looking for more and more and more money every couple of months."

She says that it's "to a scale that is not justified on economic grounds".

Yesterday, the Environment Minister called some landlords 'unscrupulous' and said he wants to 'ridiculous and immoral' jumps in rent.
