More than 27 and a half thousand people sought advice last year from the free legal aid group FLAC last year.
The group's annual report for 2013 was published this morning and shows a 10 per cent rise in the number of people seeking help.
FLAC says there's been a large increase in the number of people seeking help about issues with rented housing.
The group is calling for reforms to make access to legal advice easier and cheaper for all.
Noeline Blackwell of FLAC says legal issues can cause huge amounts of stress.
