The Dreaded Leaving Cert Looms

There's just over 24 hours to go until the start of the State exams.

One hundred and 19 thousand students will sit the Leaving and Junior certs at 5 thousand centres around the country.

One third of this year's Leaving Cert candidates are preparing to sit higher level maths.

The exact number is up slightly on last year's figure, however an estimated 2 thousand are expected to change their minds on the day and opt for ordinary level.

It all kicks off with English paper one tomorrow and President of the ASTI teachers' union, Philip Irwin, says it's important to keep the exams in perspective:
