The state could face a 400 million euro compensation bill over taxi deregulation.
Back in 2000 the taxi industry was deregulated and over 1100 taxi drivers lodged claims that the value of their plates were wiped out overnight.
They went from costing up to 100 thousand euro to just over 6000.
Three drivers who paid the top price for their plates are awaiting a high court ruling on their test cases.
According to the Irish Independent, if they win it could result in the taxpayer facing a 400 million euro compensation bill.
The figure is contained in a briefing document for the new Transport Minister.
