Tallaght hospital has confirmed that a patient refused care from two consultants on the grounds of religion.
This situation came to light when the patients daughter wrote about her mothers experience on social media.
The elderly woman turned down treatment from a female consultant when she asked if she was muslim and she confirmed she was.
The woman then asked for another medical professional to look after her instead but the second consultant was also muslim.
The hospital confirmed that the woman had refused treatment from the doctors but it added that she had been treated s it has a duty of care to all patients.
