Exploratory talks between the Dublin Airport Authority and ICTU to try to avoid a strike over pension issues have ended without agreement.

In a statement, the DAA says the Irish Congress of Trade Unions failed to engage in any meaningful discussions, as SIPTU threatens industrial action next month at both the DAA and Aer Lingus.

The dispute is over plans to cut benefits for employees and those who've retired, because of a deficit of nearly 800 million euro in the pension scheme.
