Swimming Bans At Dublin Beaches

Swimming bans on Dollymount and Merrion Strands have been lifted.

Bathers had been stopped from getting in the water by Dublin City Council, while tests were carried out. However, results have shown the water is safe to swim in.

Meanwhile, people in the Rush area have been banned from swimming there for the entire summer because of dangerously high levels of bacteria and E. coli in the water.

It's coming from waste coming from 7,000 nearby homes. Already this week, lifeguards on its South Beach have stopped several people entering the water.

Fingal County Council says Irish Water will carry out works in the area to connect the remaining portion of the Rush population with a waste water treatment plant by late 2018.

If you're thinking about heading for a beach this weekend, you might want to keep an eye on the forecast. It doesn't look like it'll be quite as nice as it has been during the week.
