Supervised injection rooms for drug users will open in Dublin next year.
The Drugs Minister Aodhan O'Riordain will make the announcement later today.
He's also set to detail pans to decriminalise possession of small amount of drugs, including heroin, cocaine and cannabis for personal use.
He hopes that the new laws to allow the changes will be in force early next year.
Minister O'Riordain says he does not see injection rooms as "free for all" facilities.
