Over half of Irish primary school principals say there is homophobic bullying in their schools.
A study carried out on 2,800 principals found 57% had to discipline pupils about the use of homophobic language.
The research is being released today to mark International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia.
This is the first study that has examined homophobic behaviour at primary schools.
