There are fresh calls for students to be vigilant when handing over money for accommodation in Dublin.
It comes as two 20 year old college pals from Austria discovered a property on the south side on Facebook.
In order to secure it quickly they handed over €550 as a good faith deposit.
However it turned out the landlord was fake and didn't own the property.
The girls lost out on a place to live and their cash.
Gardai are advising tenants to speak to landlords in advance and to also get a look at the interior of the property before handing over any money.
An investigation into this matter is underway, so far no arrests have been made.
