Earlier on today, Facebook Dublin brought together celebrities, politicians and schools for the Diana Awards, which celebrate young individuals who have actively taken a stand to online and offline bullying to become the nation’s Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. The Diana Awards were set up for young people in memory of Princess Diana.

Nadine Coyle, Jedward and YouTube star Marcus Butler all attended to show their support for the campaign. Nadine said that she wanted to get involved from past personal experience with bullying and wants to tell people 'that you don't have to suffer in silence, you can help and be helped by an organisation like this'.

The event also launched Stay safe on Facebookcampaign, a set of tools for online safety that have been jointly created by young Diana Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Facebook. The resources available includes a set of bite-sized videos, which have been created to help young people understand what they can do if they receive abuse and to offer advice on measures they can put in place to stay safe.

Sonia Flynn, Managing Director, Facebook Ireland, says: “The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Ambassadors programme is a powerful and important initiative. We’re pleased to be part of it again this year and to welcome young people from all over Ireland to Facebook Dublin today.  Bullying isn’t acceptable online or offline. We believe in a culture where people feel empowered to report it when they see it and to stand up for each other. The students and teachers here today are leading the wayby tackling bullying in their schools and communities. We hope that through the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors programme their work will continue to inspire more young people, parents and educators to stand up to bullying.”
