A southside teenager has pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of a 17-year-old.

Josh Leahy was stabbed six times in the back as he left a city centre nightclub last year.

On May 30th last, Mr. Leahy went to the Lost Society nightclub on South William Street with two friends.

They left after closing time and made their way up Grafton Street when a group of eight people began shouting at them.

Mr. Leahy said he knew one of them as his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.

A row broke out and the 17-year-old was stabbed repeatedly in the back.

He was rushed to hospital where he was treated for a collapsed lung and had a chest drain inserted.

One of Leahy's friends joined Gardai on a patrol of the area and Tadhg Costello of Richmond Hill, Monkstown was arrested after he was identified as the man who carried out the knife attack.

The 18-year-old had originally denied the charge but has changed his plea to guilty just five days into his trial.

There was no objection to bail and he is due to be sentenced in March.
