Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Councillors will debate tonight whether to cut the Property Tax next year by 15%.
Earlier this month the Environment Minister identified nine local authorities that would get permission to reduce the rate for homeowners in 2016.
They include all four Dublin councils, which have until the end of the month to tell Revenue whether they intend to pass on the cut.
But Minister Alan Kelly has reminded councillors they could instead ring-fence that money and use it tackle issues like the homeless crisis.
