Some "Fake Fur" Clothing Items Could Contain Real Animal Hair

A report's found some products marketed as fake fur in British retail chains are actually real.

A Sky News investigation claims items tested were found to be consistent with rabbit, raccoon dog and mink.

A pair of shoes with pom poms bought from Misguided were found to be most consistent with cat hair.

The firm says it has a strict no-fur policy and is now investigating with its suppliers. 

Fibres expert Doctor Phil Greaves, who tested the products, says the phenomenon has become increasingly common over the past five years.

"Rabbit is fairly common and mink is moderately common. Cat is highly unusual."

Fur farms were banned in the UK in 2003, but farmed fur from abroad is still finding its way in to retailers' supply chains from Asia.
