Socialist TD Paul Murphy is due in court today to face charges of falsely imprisoning the Tánaiste and one of her advisers.

He’s one of up to 27 people charged in connection with a water charge protest in Dublin last November.

Last week, a 16-year-old boy appeared before the Children’s Court charged with falsely imprisoning the Tánaiste Joan Burton and her adviser Karen O’Connell following a graduation ceremony in Jobstown last November.

The court heard it would be alleged that he was one of a large group of water charge protestors who prevented their car from travelling to a local church.

Six other teenage boys appeared on various other charges, including violent disorder and criminal damage.

Summonses were also sent to around 20 adults, including Socialist TD Paul Murphy and two councillors from the Anti-Austerity Alliance.

They’re all due before Dublin District Court later today.
