Flood detection is going wireless. A new scheme's bring introduced by the City Council to monitor rainfall and river water levels through sensors, and alert officials if there's a risk of flooding.
Flood damage in Dublin costs around eight million euro a year to repair. It's hoped the 'SmartDublin' initiative will reduce that figure.
The sensors will be placed at locations around the city, including Ballymun, Cabra, Clontarf and UCD.
Manager of the pilot programme Jamie Cudden said: "Projects like this demonstrate how low-cost environmental sensor networks can be scaled to generate useful and actionable flood data for communities living across the city."
