Almost 60 welfare fraud tip-offs are being reported every day.
The Department of Social Protection is receiving record levels of information from the public.
It runs a phone-line and website for anonymous reports and so far this year officials have received over 16 thousand tip offs about suspected welfare fraud.
Casual work and people returning from abroad to claim social welfare are among the complaints.
The department says not all reports turn out to be accurate and a persons payments aren't stopped on the basis of a tip off.
However it could spark a review of their entitlements.
