Sinn Fein Holding Protests Across Dublin To Highlight Need For Social Housing

Members of Sinn Féin are holding protests across Dublin today to highlight the need to build social housing to resolve the homelessness crisis.

770 adults with 1,185 children were homeless in Dublin last month - twice as many as in June 2014.

Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan is chair of Dublin City Council's housing committee - he says there are several sites where council houses could be built:

Meanwhile, management of a Dublin city social housing complex say it's an example of how successful the projects can be.

Thornton Heights residents in Inchicore will celebrate one year living in their new homes later today. Some of those now living in the development were homeless previously or had been housed in overcrowded accommodation.

CEO of Circle Voluntary Housing Association Justin O'Brien says more of this type of social housing is needed:
