Bathers at a north side coastal town will have a three year wait before raw sewage is stopped from being pumped into the sea.
Rush residents have been banned from swimming this summer because of dangerously high levels of bacteria and E. coli due to the waste coming from 3,000 homes.
Lifeguards on its South Beach stopped several people entering the water this week.
Fingal County Council says Irish Water will carry out works in the area to connect the remaining portion of the Rush population with a waste water treatment plant by late 2018.
