A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with falsely imprisoning the Tánaiste and one of her advisers during a water charge protest in Jobstown.

Another teenager admitted damaging a Garda patrol car, while five others were brought before the Children’s Court on various other charges.

Water charge protestors allegedly blocked the Tánaiste Joan Burton and her adviser Karen O’Connell inside their car for hours after they attended a graduation in Jobstown in November of last year.

Seven boys appeared before the Children’s Court this morning, the youngest of whom was just 13 when he allegedly threw missiles at Gardai while they tried to police the situation.

A 16-year-old appeared on two charges of false imprisonment.

Another 16-year-old pleaded guilty to violent disorder and damaging the windscreen of a Garda car.

He’ll be sentenced next month.

The eldest of the seven, 18-year-old Calvin Carlyle of Gleann na hEorna in Tallaght is also accused of violent disorder and criminal damage, while the others are facing similar charges.

Some of them are accused of pelting Gardai with eggs, and their cases have been adjourned to various dates before the end of the year.

A number of adults arrested following the protest, including Socialist TD Paul Murphy, are due before Dublin District Court next week.
