Security Cameras Could Be Compulsory For Taxis

The National Transport Authority is considering making security cameras mandatory in taxis.

It comes as a cab driver was hospitalised last week after being stabbed in his car in Athlone.

A number of drivers have expressed concerns for their safety after the attack.  

These taxi drivers in Dublin are broadly in favour of the idea:

 

The NTA is now looking for submissions on the idea. 

John Motherway of Safe Cab Security is in favour of the idea, but says its important the right to privacy is maintained:
