Dublin is getting at least two new schools, and 70 others are going to be done up or made bigger.

As part of a six-year government plan, it's also been confirmed that using prefabs as classrooms long-term will be stopped.

Seventy two Dublin schools are going to benefit from this 2.8 billion euro investment in buildings.

Some will need refurbishment, others will get extensions while Swords and Portmarnock will have two new secondary schools built.

One of the main aims of the programme is to end the long term use of prefabs as classrooms but the Education Minister says they may need to be used in some cases on a short-term basis.

Work begins on the first of the schools next year, with some new buildings ready for the 2017 school year.
