Gardai in Shankill are investigating 70 lines of inquiry following a number of alleged sexual assaults. Over 200 people attended a public meeting last night over concerns about the attacks.
Detectives confirmed they are investigating four alleged sexual assaults in the area. It’s believed the same man is behind the attempted attacks and he targets women when they are on their own and it's dark.
The local superintendent and an officer from the crime prevention unit assured residents that they are putting huge resources into the investigation. They say they have increased patrols in the area – both uniformed and undercover, and Irish Rail is upping its security at the DART station.
A committee was formed which will liase with the gardai about any future updates.
