Dublin homeowners may not get a cut in property tax if bigger councils get funding slashed.
The dispute has emerged because Fine Gael wants the bigger councils to get less government funding for services because they have more people paying the property tax.
However Labour wants to use the money to give homeowners a break and reduce the charge.
If Labour gets their way it would mean a reduction of up to 15 percent in the payment for those living in the four Dublin council areas.
The row has caused a stalemate between the government parties.
