From summer 2017, you won't be charged any extra to use your phone in other European countries.

The European Parliament has formally voted to end roaming charges. The new regulations will outlaw the unpopular fees from June 2017.

From April next year, mobile operators roaming charges will be limited to 5 cent a minute for voice calls and 5 cent for each megabyte of data.

Ruth Deasy from Dublin's EU office says the cost will be gradually lowered "it means that after a long years of negotiation and battling, the end of roaming charges is going to come in summer 2017."

"Reductions will start in 2016. There will be no roaming charges for text, calls or data. It will be like using your phone in your own country", she explained.
