A court has heard a woman had to leave her job after being the victim of an armed robbery at a petrol station.

A serial robber, who has 98 previous convictions, has been jailed for three and a half years for the raid.

The court heard the accused went into an Applegreen shop in Blackrock in June 2014 armed with an imitation gun. He threatened staff and stole 820 euro and a bottle of vodka before escaping in a stolen car.

The worker at the centre of the robbery became withdrawn and couldn’t sleep and has had to leave her job. 41 year old Noel Kinsella from St Anthony's Road in Rialto pleaded guilty to the raid.

His barrister said he was a man who had a terrible drug addiction which has destroyed his life and brought misery to others.

He was sentenced to three and a half years in jail.
