Customs officers have seized over five million cigarettes worth 2.5 million Euro at the Port of Cork.

The 'Eton' brand cigarettes were found in containers marked "cardboard boxes" which travelled from Malaysia via Singapore and Rotterdam.

Meanwhile, revenue discovered around 300 litres of alcohol and over 4,000 cigarettes in an Irish registered van which arrived at Dublin Port from Liverpool.

And at Dublin Airport, 18,000 Winston brand cigarettes worth almost 9,000 euro were found in the luggage of a 25 year old Moldovan woman who had arrived on a flight from Moscow via Charles De Gaulle. She appeared in court today where she was remanded in custody until next Tuesday.
