The government is reportedly considering housing refugees at the disused army barracks in Arbour Hill.

According to the Irish Times, it's one of a number of empty properties identified by the Office of Public Works, which could be used to take in people fleeing war-torn countries.

Meanwhile, Austria is phasing out special measures which have allowed thousands of migrants to travel freely from Hungary to western Europe.

Over the weekend more than 18,000 travelled over the border, and then took trains to Austria and Germany.

If new rules come into effect, the numbers able to travel freely will be severely curtailed.
