Rail workers to be balloted on cost cutting plans

SIPTU and the NBRU are to begin balloting members on proposals to sort out the cost-cutting row at Irish Rail.

The Labour Relations Commission is suggesting pay cuts for those earning the most, while increments would continue and pension payments would stay the same.

The NBRU's Dermot O'Leary has dismissed claims that the pension arrangement is a sweet deal:
