College Green is returning to normal after protesters blocked the area for a time.

Around 150 protesters blocked one lane of traffic here on college green outside the Bank of Ireland.

They were part of an anti-austerity march that organisers say was to let the Government know that they hadn’t gone away.

However, a small group of around 40 decided to run into the Bank of Ireland just before it closed - barricading themselves into the branch.

This protester explains why they did it.

"The protest was following down this way and a few people decided that they were going to run into the bank and have a sit down protest to emphasise the fact that it is the banks who are throwing people out of their houses, it is the banks that were rescued and people were sacrificed because of it".

Another protester, Saoirse Bennett, says they were willing to stay.

"Once we were inside, they wouldn't let us outside. We knew that if we stay past four o'clock it would just be trespass charges. People were willing to stay until we were carried out, this is just class war".

The protest has now ended and traffic on College Green is now returning normal.

Gardai say no arrests were made at the protest.
