Charles Stewart Parnell could be on the move.

A new proposal to ease traffic in Dublin city centre could see the historic monument on O'Connell Street relocated.

Fine Gael Councillor Naoise O'Muiri is set to table a motion tonight that could see the iconic statue - which is more than a century old - put elsewhere to ease traffic congestion.

Cars, cyclists and pedestrians all use the top end of O'Connell Street, and Councillor O'Muiri reckons the Parnell Monument is in the way.

He's suggesting moving it fifty yards down the street, which could also benefit the Luas extension.

If the motion is agreed to by city Councillors this evening, a report will be prepared outlining possible new locations for the iconic statue.
