A prison officer has been taken to hospital following an incident at Cloverhill Prison.
The Roscommon County Footballer is being assessed as a precaution - after suffering an injury during a scuffle at the facility this morning.
He intervened,along with a colleague, in a row involving a prisoner and an elderly inmate.
The Prison Service says the person who started the incident will be disciplined.
