President Suggests Council Says Sorry To Homeless

Dublin City Council should apologise for the lack of social housing - that's the call from the President.

Michael D Higgins is attending the launch of the annual report of Merchant’s Quay Ireland, which provides homeless and drugs services.

The charity say there was an increase in demand for its services last year, and CEO Tony Geoghan says they're worried about a lack of beds during winter:

The charity says demand for ALL of its services increased last year, and there was a six percent jump in the numbers using their needle exchange.

President Higgins is calling on the Council to apologise for limited social housing, and says they need to step up to the plate:
