The 7-year-old killed in a plane crash in Offaly at the weekend has been described by his school in Dublin as a "happy, smiling young boy".

Kacper Kacprzak died when the plane he was in came down in bog-land on Sunday.

His dad was one of a group who safely jumped out of the plane just moments earlier in a planned skydive. Along with Kacper, the pilot of the plane also lost his life.

The Principal of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Huntstown says staff and pupils are "shocked and saddened" by Kacper's death.

Kieran Lyons says he was "always enthusiastic and interested in learning" and described him as "a very good friend".

"This tragic event may raise other issues amongst pupils and we ask parents to communicate with us if they would like us to further support their child", he said.

The school has implemented its Critical Incident Management Plan, and is getting help from psychologists in supporting and advising school staff.

A statement on the school's website said "The Board of Management, children, parents and staff of Sacred Heart of Jesus Primary School, Huntstown extend their deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of Kacper. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this most difficult of times".
