A mechanic who knocked down a man before reversing over his head has been jailed for four and a half years.
Ian Kelly of Castle Terrace, Phibsboro admitted doing it after seeing the man chat to his girlfriend after a night out.
On March 24th 2012, Ian Kelly and his then girlfriend had a row on a night out and took separate taxis to a filling station in Hartstown.
Keith Lawless began chatting to her while he was withdrawing money from an ATM at around 3am.
Kelly drove his car into his girlfriend and knocked Mr. Lawless down before reversing over him.
This caused catastrophic head and brain injuries that have greatly affected his ability to work and enjoy a normal life.
Mr. Kelly offered his victim €10,000 in compensation but that was rejected by the judge who advised Mr. Lawless that he would have an open and shut case if he took a civil suit against him.
He then jailed him for four and a half years.
