Phibsborough is to be designated an architectural conservation area.

New development controls designed to retain the heritage and character of Phibsborough are to be introduced by Dublin City Council.

It means the north side village would be protected from inappropriate development.

Businesses and homeowners will be subject to tight controls if they want to make any changes to their property, retaining original features and shopfronts to the greatest extent possible.

The conservation area centres on Doyle's Corner from St. Peters Church to Berkeley Road near the Mater, but stops short of the shopping centre and also excludes Dalymount.
