Bosses at the Mater are urging people to see their local GP instead of coming to the hospital.
145 people are on trolleys at Emergency Departments across the city - the highest number is at the Mater with 32 patients waiting to be treated.
Management are also asking people with minor injuries to go their clinic in Smithfield.
