After six months of works, Penneys has unveiled its newly refurbished store on O'Connell Street.

The clothing chain first opened the store adjacent to the GPO in 1992, in a building that was severely damaged during the 1916 Easter Rising.

The work was phased to allow the store to continue trading and to minimise any inconvenience to customers during the construction.

A spokesperson for Penneys today said "We are very aware of the historic nature of the site and are pleased that our store is open prior to the upcoming 1916 celebrations."

"We look forward to introducing our existing and valued customers to the ultra-modern store and bringing the Penneys brand experience to new customers in Dublin during this important year."

Primark currently has 302 stores across 10 countries including 36 in Ireland, where it trades as Penneys.

Primark opened its first U.S. store in Boston last September, and plans to open six further stores in the next year.
