Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe has been asked to help in a renewed bid to clamp down on penalty points abuses.
Sergeant McCabe has made a fresh round of allegations that the system is still being abused by some members of the Gardai, after he was given information by other officers.
He has now been asked to assist the Garda Professional Standard Unit in their work on the issue, while senior management and the Garda Ombudsman are also looking into the claims.
Sergeant McCabe's original claims of points being wrongly deleted were upheld by the Guerin report earlier this year.
