Campaigners for the criminalisation of sex buyers are urging supporters to lobby their local politicians into voting in favour of new laws on prostitution.
The introduction of sex buyer laws in Northern Ireland two months ago has raised concerns among the 72 organisations which make up the TURN OFF THE RED LIGHT campaign.
They fear sex buyers will make the short trip over the border in order to escape the law, and they’re worried the pimps and traffickers will follow.
Following a recommendation from the Oireachtas Justice Committee, the Government confirmed last November that paying for sex will be made illegal under proposed new legislation.
The Sexual Offences Bill is due to be published in full next month and campaigners are urging people to get in touch with their local TD or Senator to ensure its safe passage into law.
