Rugby hero Paul O'Connell is to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Limerick today.
The former Ireland captain will be made a Doctor of Science in recognition of his contribution to sport.
The 36-year-old's career came to an abrupt end last month, when he left the world cup on a stretcher with a hamstring injur however he'd already announced plans to retire after the tournament.
O'Connell made a try-scoring debut for Ireland against Wales in 2002 and since then he's earned 108 caps playing for his country.
