Over 7 thousand phones have been seized in our prisons since 2009.

The Herald says better security measures have reduced the number of mobiles getting into jails.

Seven thousand 215 mobiles have been confiscated in prisons over 5 years - that's a rate of 4 a day.

Figures from the Prison Service show a clamp-down on phones in jails has enjoyed increasing success in recent years.

In 2010, 1718 phones were confiscated.

The number reduced to over 1300 in 2011.

Last year the figure was just over 800.

Wayne Dundon who ordered a hit on businessman Roy Collins from jail, was found guilty of murder this week.
