A man is being treated in hospital this morning after falling into the River Shannon while working on Thomond Bridge in Limerick yesterday.

His two co-workers were pronounced dead after being recovered from the water.

The steel cage they had been suspended in broke away from the crane it was attached to.

The third man managed to free himself and was rescued.

Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority are conducting investigations into the incident.
