The numbers caught dealing drugs in Dublin have spiked in a year.

98FM News has learned there's been a 76 percent increase in those caught pushing in the Kevin Street and Kilmainham areas.

Detections are up 42 percent in Ballyfermot and 20 percent in Crumlin.

Chair of Dublin City Council's Joint Policing Committte Daithi de Roiste says the jump is because an undercover operation called Trident has ended.

He says that they are now seeing the impact of this right across west Dublin and in particular in the likes of Ballyfermot, Drimnagh and Crumlin.

He added that its becoming very clear than unless we allocate resources to this problem we can in absolutlely no way tackle it.
