The proposed new bridge over the Dodder will be for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport only.

It will link Sir John Rogerson Quay and Ringsend and is seen as a key piece of infrastructure for the proposed new suburb of Poolbeg West.

However buses and taxis will not be allowed to turn right off the bridge into Ringsend down Thorncastle Street.

Consultant Engineer Joe Kelly told concerned Dublin City Councillors the plan is for vehicular traffic to travel straight ahead to East Link Road only.

The bridge is due to open in 2022 and significant works will need to be carried out to make sure the quay side is stable.

It will displace St Patrick's Rowing Club which has been there for 75 years.
