A newly-built apartment block for older people near Mountjoy Square, which has been empty for months, is finally ready to be lived in.

The Catholic Housing Aid Society has agreed to lower how much it charges to rent Father Scully House.

It cost 17 million Euro to rebuild and refurbish but Carmel Maher is delighted with her new apartment.

Twenty four former residents moved back into senior citizens complex on Gardiner Street before Christmas while 75 units are now being filled by people on the housing list.

The building had been empty for a number of months because of a row over rent prices.

But Fergus McKenna from CHAS, the agency managing the block, says everything has been sorted out now.

Fergus says they’re currently interviewing people for the 75 empty rooms with the view to having them filled over the next 6 weeks.
