Andrews Lane Theatre is to be turned into a small, low-cost hotel.

The venue, which has been used as a nightclub for years, has been sold for almost 4-and-a-half million euro.

Plays by Roddy Doyle and Maeve Binchy have been held in the iconic Andrews Lane Theatre just off Trinity Street since it opened in 1989.

It's been used on and off as a night club for several years, after plans to redevelop it fell through with the crash.

Now it's been sold for 4 point 4 million euro to a consortium that wants to turn it into a hotel with 115 pod-like rooms.

The idea has taken off in cities like Tokyo and New York where travellers value location and no frills over fancy bathrooms.

If it gets planning permission, it's hoped the hotel will open for business in 2018.

A spokesperson says Hangar will "remain open for the next 12 months", and the club will move to a new home after that.
