Professor Fergal Malone says patients are being forced to wait for up to nine months for gynaecology appointments that can detect cancer.
He has also hit out at a so-called postcode lottery for scans, which means that foetal abnormalities may not be spotted.
And Professor Malone has revealed that women who are not pregnant are put to the bottom of waiting lists to be seen for routine complaints.
