Could Nelson's Pillar Return to O'Connell Street?

It's not looking very likely that the Spire will be re-named.

A Dublin City Council committee will today discuss a proposal to call the monument after the late Nelson Mandela.

It's after a member of the public wrote to the Lord Mayor saying it would be a fitting tribute, especially because of its proximity to the Dunnes Stores where workers refused to handle fruit imported from apartheid South Africa.

But it's already looking like a non-runner because of a rule which states landmarks cant be named after those who are dead for less than 20 years.

These people on the streets of Dublin have mixed views on whether an exception should be made
